Languages Transition Day: click for the photos
Friday 26th June 09 was language Transition Day for Year 5 Pupils This is a CILT funded project. CILT is the National Centre For Languages, All cluster schools are involved Ridgeway,Wanborough, Chiseldon Wroughton Bishopstone.
Because there is no Spanish provision at The Ridgeway at the moment, this day was to show parents and learners that language learning skills are transferable. The children took part in a carousel of activities based on Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
The activities were in Spanish, French, German and Italian An international lunch was provided and activities were rounded off with a discussion session for the children to share their findings.
There will also be a parents evening for Year 5 parents and children to take part in some of the activities and cheese and wine will be served. This was on Thursday 2nd July.
CILT are extremely interested in our project and it is a featured event on the CILT website: www.cilt.org.uk/transition/Swindon/

Wroughton Infants School: clcik to see the web site. Most of our pupils have transfered to us from Wroughton Infants School. To visit their website click here.

We recognise that when children transfer to us from the Infant School they will need support to help them settle down quickly. The Infant and Junior School staff work closely together to help us to build on the achievements the children make in Key Stage One.

Changing schools can be both exciting and worrying for a young child. To ease the transition we work with the infant school to plan an induction programme for the children. In July the year 2 children spend two days at the junior school. The children will be in their new class with the year three teacher who will teach them in September.

During the induction days we try to give the children a taste of the full curriculum, at a time when our older pupils have moved on to their new secondary schools.

Ridgeway Secondary School: click to see the web site.At the end of Key Stage 2 most Wroughton Junior School pupils transfer to the Ridgeway Secondary School. This is situated just across the road from us. To visit their website click here. This change can be a difficult one for pupils and we have close links with The Ridgeway to make the transfer as smooth as possible. You may like to check out the 'parentscentre' web site for advice on moving to secondary school. We have induction days for pupils to visit their new school in July, and teachers work together on sharing information and visiting classes during the course of the year.

Joint projects are frequently organised between the schools. To see photos of our year 4 children working on a science project with some Ridgeway year 7 pupils click here.

Several other local schools feed into the Ridgeway School. We meet regularly with them.

We also have a partner school in South Africa, Clarens Intermediate. To see more go to our International Links page. Much of our work in South Africa is planned with Red Oaks Primary School in North Swindon.
