Governors: What we do
The responsibility for the management of the school is shared between the Headteacher and the Governors. Governing bodies have a range of duties and powers including:
• Helping establish (with the Head) the aims and policies of the school
• Setting the School's budget
• Ensuring that the National Curriculum and Religious Education are provided
• Selecting the Headteacher o Appointing, promoting, supporting and disciplining other staff
• Providing outside advice and acting as a link between the local community and the school.
Although the Governing Body has a general responsibility for managing the school effectively, it is not expected to take detailed decisions about the day-to-day running of the school - that is the function of the Headteacher. The Governing Body is a group. Individual Governors have no power except where the whole Governing Body has delegated a specific power to that individual.
Each governor serves on at least one of these committees -
• Finance and Premises
• School Improvement
• Staffing
The full Governing Body and each committee meets once a term.
