For Parents: Healthy Eating
We have made a real commitment to this being a healthy school and in December 2005 we were awarded with the national "Healthy Schools Award". We ask children to keep a drinking water bottle with them so that they can take regular sips during the day. When children start at the school they are given a water bottle. Replacements can be purchased from the school office.
SCHOOL MEALS
We have a functioning onsite kitchen and provide a healthy cooked meal service. Orders and payment for meals need to be made by the previous Friday. Menus & order forms are on the Diary, Newsletters & Menu page. If paying by cheque, please make it payable to "Wroughton Junior School". If you feel your child may be entitled to free school meals, information and application forms are available from the school office or click here
There is also an online version of the form
Children may bring a packed lunch. This should be brought in a labelled plastic container. Drinking water is available all day. Please do not send your child with cans or bottles of flavoured drinks.
PLAYTIMES
A snack of fruit may be brought from home for playtimes or a snack can be bought from our healthy school tuckshop.
PARENTS AND CARERS
Are you doing all you can to introduce healthy eating messages at home?
"The School Food Trust's new standards for school lunches are an important step in getting children to eat better and in turn, do better. Measures like less salt, sugar and saturated fat are common sense but will make the world of difference. Feeding children on crisps and cola is like running cars on crude oil, they just won't work." - Gary Rhodes.

Making a change We all want the best for the children in our lives, whether we are parents, carers or guardians. Healthier eating is especially important for children as they grow up. To help make this happen, there is now a push to make all food in schools healthier.
The good news is that in May 2006, the Government announced new standards for school food - these tough standards are law so it has to happen.
We all know that encouraging most children to eat healthier is a challenge. Some have no idea what a healthy meal looks like and getting them to try something different - or even eat a vegetable with their meal - can be a struggle.
If we all work together these changes will benefit our children's health.
To help you begin the journey to a healthier diet for your children, the School Food Trust has produced a booklet (PDF 1.53MB) and a leaflet (PDF 1.6MB) especially for parents and carers, which clearly lays out what the new standards mean and how you can play your part in transforming school food.
